Were Looking For a Senior Software Engineer (FHIR Integrations)

You'll join the Data Gateway team, the entry point through which raw clinical and administrative data flows into their platform. You'll be responsible for building scalable, compliant, and high-performing data ingestion services with a strong focus on FHIR-based integration workflows, distributed architecture, and data compliance.

This is a hands-on role that combines backend engineering, cloud architecture, and deep knowledge of healthcare data standards.

What Youll Be Doing

• Design and implement robust ingestion pipelines for FHIR-based data flows

• Architect scalable distributed systems using Java, Spark, Kafka, and Kubernetes

• Build APIs and services to validate, transform, and enrich clinical data

• Ensure privacy, security (HIPAA), and full data lineage across the integration stack

• Optimize batch and real-time data performance (latency, throughput, cost)

• Collaborate with product, DevOps, and architecture teams to ship critical features

• Stay current with FHIR (R4, R5), US Core, and TEFCA standards and guide internal adoption

What You Bring

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience

• 2+ years working on healthcare data integrations, especially FHIR

• Expertise in Java, JVM optimization, and distributed frameworks like Spark or Flink

• Hands-on experience with FHIR resources, bulk-data, SMART on FHIR, and HL7 v2/CDA

• Experience with Kafka, REST APIs, and event-driven architectures

• Familiarity with cloud services (preferably AWS: Lambda, EKS, S3, RDS, etc.)

• Understanding of HIPAA, data security, and healthcare compliance

• Experience debugging distributed systems and explaining solutions to technical/non-technical teams

Nice to Have

• Experience with backend languages like Python or Go

• Experience implementing FHIR Bulk API, Kafka Streams, or Kafka Connect

• Familiarity with Terraform, GitHub Actions, Argo Workflows, or Helm

• Background working in healthcare platforms, payers, or EHR integrations
