About the Role Backend Developer (Python/FastAPI/GCP)

Were partnering with a fast-growing fintech that enables cross-border payments and remittances directly through WhatsApp, reaching millions of users across Latin America. The company is scaling rapidly and building a new identity, registration, and account-management platform designed to support secure data flows and high-volume onboarding.

Were looking for a Senior Backend Developer experienced in Python, FastAPI, and Google Cloud to help build the backend services powering this new identity and onboarding experience. Your work will shape how users register, verify their identity, and manage their information across the fintech ecosystem.

What You'll Be Doing

• Design and build REST APIs using Python and FastAPI to receive, validate, and securely store user registration data.

• Implement backend logic for managing emails, phone numbers, beneficiaries, and other identity-related attributes.

• Work with relational databases (CloudSQL/MySQL/PostgreSQL), ensuring proper schema design and data integrity.

• Integrate with third-party identity/auth providers (OAuth2, OIDC, email/SMS verification).

• Define API contracts together with frontend engineers to ensure seamless data exchange.

• Add robust auditing, logging, and monitoring for all data operations.

• Deploy and operate services on GCP using Cloud Run, CloudSQL, IAM/Service Accounts, Secret Manager, and Pub/Sub.

• Apply strong security practices for handling PII and sensitive identity data.

What You Bring

• Strong hands-on experience with Python and FastAPI for production-grade API development.

• Solid understanding of relational database design and experience with CloudSQL/MySQL/PostgreSQL.

• Experience building secure, scalable APIs that process PII following industry best practices.

• Practical experience with Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run, CloudSQL, IAM, Secret Manager, Pub/Sub).

• Knowledge of authentication and identity protocols such as OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and JWT.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Docker-based deployments, and infrastructure automation.

• Strong English communication skills in a fully remote environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience in fintech, payments, remittances, or identity-driven platforms.

• Knowledge of event-driven systems and message brokers (GCP Pub/Sub, Kafka).

• Familiarity with Terraform or other IaC tools.

• Experience working with auditing, compliance, or fraud-related systems.
